Robert Helfand

Board of Finance

Current Office: Board of Finance

Why I serve?  My family moved to Simsbury in 2005, and it proved to be a great place for our son to grow and thrive.  I’d like to see the town as a place to which children can return and grandparents can welcome them: welcoming, diverse, and affordable.

Past or present Boards/Commissions/Volunteer work:  Board of Ethics.

Employment History:  I currently serve as Assistant Director of the Retirement Services Division of the Office of the State Comptroller.  My office manages pension plans and retirement services for all state employees.  Before entering government service, I was an attorney for 30 years, specializing in litigation in the insurance and financial services industries.

Education:  B.A. summa cum laude, Princeton University; J.D., Columbia University School of Law.

Why I love Simsbury: I grew up in the Bronx and lived in New York City into my 40s.  Simsbury connected me with the natural world for the first time, while allowing me to remain in touch with everything I still regard as civilization.  Also, Tulmeadow Farm.
