Why I serve?
I fell in love with the town of Simsbury since moving here nearly five years ago. As an avid reader and a passionate supporter of libraries, I immediately wanted to serve on the board because this library is a cornerstone of community life here – a vital cultural, educational, and social resource for all people, from small children to seniors. It’s hard to imagine what the town would be like without it, so I want to play a role in preserving and expanding its services for the benefit of all.
Past or present Boards/Commissions/Volunteer work:
I’m a board member of Advocacy Unlimited, a Connecticut-based non-profit that provides specialized, holistic, peer-led resources for those navigating mental health, addiction and trauma. A beacon of hope and recovery for over 30 years, AU served more than 10,500 people in 2024, providing workshops, recovery specialist training, and a range of support services.
Employment History:
I’ve been an independent writer, editor and communications advisor/coach for nearly 40 years, providing editorial and marketing communications services to corporations, non-profit organizations, hospitals, community groups, and individuals. I also taught a strategic communications writing course at NYU’s School of Professional Studies for 10 years.
Education:
B.A. English, Ohio University (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa); Non-fiction writing coursework, The New School.
Why I love Simsbury:
It’s a beautiful “rural” town with open spaces and nearby farms, yet with the resources and services you need and want from a thriving suburb – from healthcare and cultural events to restaurants and shopping. I felt at home here immediately. But just as important, Simsbury is a friendly community filled with people who are committed to supporting the town, our democracy, and the common good.
Fun Fact:
I can wiggle my ears.
