Lalitha Shivaswamy

Board of Finance

Why I serve?

My husband and I moved to Simsbury during the July 4th weekend of 2003. We were adopted by our neighbors and never once felt like outsiders. I built a background in finance, law, non-profits and a global experience from the advice and opportunities given to me by many residents in our town. It is now time to pay it forward. I want to ensure our way of life is protected and nurtured; a way of life where everyone - from immigrants to descendants of settlers - can be friends and neighbors, and a place where diversity of thought is tolerated and celebrated. Serving in elected office gives this immigrant a chance to be part of the story of Simsbury, a town where she was accepted regardless of faith and form.

Why I love Simsbury:

Simsbury is home. It is the birthplace of our family’s journey as Americans. This is where my husband and I became homeowners and parents. Generations later, when my children’s children are asked about their background, they can say it all began in Simsbury! From the schools to the library to Simsbury Farms to the trails and the PAC, I am in awe that I get to live here and be a citizen of this town. I want Simsbury to be available to all who aspire for our way of life just as we aspired to live here a quarter century ago.

Fun Fact:

I have lived and worked in four countries and traveled to many more.
