Why I serve? Volunteering, including serving on town boards and commissions, is a meaningful way to connect with our community and spread joy to friends and neighbors. I hope to serve Simsbury as a Selectman, where I can combine my 20+ years of professional business and land-use experience with my dedication to community service, and work with you for our beautiful town.
Past or present Boards/Commissions/Volunteer work: Current Member of the Library Board of Trustees, Current Co-President and Past Treasurer of the Simsbury Junior Woman’s Club; Current Executive Council Member and Chair of the Deacons Committee of First Church of Christ; Current Member Simsbury Celebrates Committee; Past-President and Treasurer of the Tootin’ Hills PTO.
Since moving to Simsbury in 2014, I have sponsored educational, cultural and social programs to Simsbury’s youth through the Tootin’ Hills PTO and the Simsbury Junior Woman’s Club; delivered meals, groceries and library materials to seniors, assisted families in need at the Simsbury Food Pantry, run countless drives for school supplies, backpacks, holiday gifts and warm clothing for Veterans, and helped carry the baton for beloved community events such as the Tootin’ Hills PTO Duck Race, the Annual Simsbury Arts and Crafts Festival, and Simsbury Celebrates.
Employment History: I began my career as an Audit Manager at a national public accounting firm, and a Corporate Controller for a private nation-wide company headquartered in Denver, Colorado. I then decided to pursue my dream to be a lawyer, and attended law school at the University of Denver. I practiced law for several years in Colorado for a large regional law firm, and focused my practice on resolving business disputes involving contracts, commercial leases and land-use matters.
Education: Bachelor of Science in Accounting (with honors) from Kansas State University; Juris Doctorate in Law (with honors) University of Denver; Editor in Chief of the University of Denver Law Review (2004-05).
Why I love Simsbury: Simsbury is a very special place to raise a family - surrounded by exceptional natural resources, like the Farmington River, miles of hiking trails, and our wonderful wildlife. Simsbury also has a long history that gives us a sense of place, and always makes me wonder how life has changed here through the years. But most of all, our residents are engaged, generous and caring neighbors who do not hesitate to lend a helping hand. This is why Tim and I chose to live in Simsbury, and why I am thankful that our daughters call Simsbury their hometown.
Fun Fact: In addition to our twin daughters, Madeline and Claire, we also share our home with twin Bichon-Poodle rescue dogs, Finn and Delilah.
